Hello!!! I haven't forgotten about my blog or all my blogging friends. I've just been busy getting my new studio/office space set up. I PROMISE to share photos soon! A Book or a Movie?

We just received a fresh batch of snow last night. Not alot, but enough to make driving not the most pleasant experience and also keep the weather FREEZING! brrrr! So if you have plans to "stay in" this weekend I'd love to recommend a little fun reading for you. This is for pure enjoyment which is something I hadn't delved into for a LONG time. Have you heard of the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer? There are currently 3 in the series with a 4th due out this fall and the first book is currently being made into a movie! I have several friends and family members reading them. The word about them here sort of spread like wild fire. Anyway, I really enjoyed them and think you would too! Snuggle down, you're in for a long night! Once you start reading it will be hard to stop! (I read all three in a week!)

I also received a sweet email from a fellow blogger who was sharing her excitement for her friend who has just published her first children's book. I love a good children's book and have thought several times about wanting to publish a few myself ;) . It's always fun to celebrate with someone else on their success, especially a fellow woman and mother! You can check out her newly published book here. Congratulations to you Marinda!

If you are in the mood for going out, I just saw 27 dresses and loved it! Definately a good chic flick! Grab a couple of girlfriends and enjoy yourself this weekend! Or grab your significant other and go see P.S. I love you. REALLY loved that one!

SPC - Celebrate ~ 10 years

Self Portrait Challenge theme this month is Celebrate. I couldn't resist sharing a photo from a photoshoot I had this weekend. My ten year wedding anniversary is coming up so my husband and I fused our style from then with who we are now and posed for some very artistic un-conventional "wedding" photos. It was a so much fun and I was grateful that I was still able to slip into my dress after 10 years. The photos were taken in an adandoned house and barn where I was NOT afraid to get the dress dirty for sake of art! LOL!!! Plus it starting snow ALOT out of the blue right before we started! The whole day was a complete adventure! I think 10 years is worthy of alittle celebration.

300th post party - Celebrate!!!!!

WOW! one year of blogging, 300 posts later and it's party time!!!! It's been way to much fun sharing, connecting, meeting and chatting with all of you and so many more who stop by quietly. I appreciate you too! So.........on with the show right? Let's go!

I know you may think I have been dragging out the 300th post - you're right. I sort of have been. I *had* this great idea and wanted to create a tutorial but I had the darnest time finding the supplies. I use to be able to get them at my local hardware store but alas, those days are gone. I searched high and low and even drove to the neighboring cities to no avail. I guess that project will need re-vamped before it gets posted. Having said that, I had to come up with a new project to share for our big event here - hence the delay. But, what better for a party than Party HATS!!!! custom of course and sooooo whatever style/theme you choose! That's the best isn't it?

Custom Party Crowns

(Be sure to upload your photos from trying this project into the Brassy Apple Projects Flickr group!)

1. Start by gathering your "royal" supplies:
fabric of choice
buttons
bias tape
rick rack
lace
extra fabric scraps
rhinestones
and other fun embelishments
You will need: fusible fleece or heavy fusible interfacing

2. Create a pattern for your crown shape using a piece of paper. If you like winging it just skip this step.

3. Fuse your fleece or interfacing to the wrong side of your fabric per the manufacturers instructions. You may want to use 2 layers for a more stiff effect/feel. Play around with what works best for you.

4. Place your crown pattern on top of the fuse area, trace and cut.

5. Now the fun begins! Embellishing! Get your children involved! they'll love it! I added complimentary double folded bias tape to the bottom edge. Just place, pin and sew. Cut out other fun fabric shapes to put on your crown too. Using craft glue, hot glue, thread, heat n' bond, etc attach your embelishments. The skies the limit so go for it!

5. Measure the crown around your childs head to find a good fit. Pin and sew your crown closed. I folded under my edge for a nice clean finished look.

6. Hold an royal coronation ceremony and crown your newest King and Queen!

Wow! the 300th post is looming and there's been so much I've wanted to say but because the 300th post will be a celebration one I've had to pull back on the bloggin' reigns until we get to that one! *sigh* where do I begin. The teenage years are going to be rough but fun too! Don’t start worrying now, I know you too well. There’s so much you are finding out about yourself and others and where you fit into all of it. I know you feel like you are so different than others yet the same with them too. Hold your head high and just be yourself – the self you know way down deep. Continue to be friendly to those around you and reach out to everyone. You’d be surprised actually how many people admire you and watch what you do that you aren’t aware of. You have so many gifts and talents still to discover and I promise you will surprise yourself one day. Keep following your dreams tucked away inside and do the things you love to do!

Switching gears from the emotional side of things, DON’T let that counselor sway you out of talking that pottery class! I know it will be hard but he and your Dad will hash it out later and you will always wish you had but feel like it’s too late to try now. DO take a photography class. It’s something you’ve always loved, you know that, but don’t let the feelings of being not good enough as the other students stop you. If you don’t, you’ll end up hyper ventilating on your way to a class at a university when you are 29 years old while your husband and kids are at home. You’ll love it then, I promise, but you will wish you hadn’t waited so long. Oh! And take a dance class now! Try to convince your mom to squeeze it into the budget for a weekly class. You’ll thank me later!

I know there are so many things you love so go after all of them! Remember your standards, you never had a hard time doing that but I just thought I’d throw that in there at the end for good measure.

I am a HUGE fan of Amy Butler! I love her fabrics, designs, patterns, books, etc. Is there anything this woman can't do? Truly talented and so inspiring for so many women out there. I just stumbled upon this contest today and I just have to share it with all of you!

Just popping in to say "HELLO! and Happy New Year!" I really didn't have any great picture to add to this post and I always think a post is more interesting with a photo or two to go along with it. Don't you think? So I ran into the guest bath, no primping, and snapped a photo of ME saying hello to you! LOL!!! So this is how I would look if you stopped by right now to wish me a Happy New year! ta da!

I am bursting at the seams with ideas, plans and exciting changes both in business and my own personal life. I love the start of something new - like a new year - to start over, change, re-arrange, re-evaluate and get re-inspired! Can you tell I'm bursting! :)

I'm also just a few posts away from my 300th post and my 1 year Blog anniversary! My goodness I've been a Chatty Cathy! So much has been cataloged here on my little blog for all to see and I've met so many great friends , customers and faithful readers along the way. During the Holiday Season there seems to be nothing but re-runs on T.V. *sigh* Most of the Oprah episodes that have been aired recently I have already seen but not yesterdays. I'm not sure when I missed it but something told me to make sure to set the DVR so I wouldn't miss it. As I sat down to watch it late last night I was so glad that I had! Oprah opened the show with by saying this, :

"Everyone comes to this beautiful planet earth with something unique, something great, something only you were born to do. That's your real job, to figure out what is your calling and then begin to honor it. What's your calling?"

Did you get alittle chill? did you feel a pull in one direction or another? I just simply loved what she said and most people know I'm a sucker for a good quote! And how pertinent this "advice" or wisdom is given/received or that I heard it at this time of year. So many of us re-evaluate the past year and vow to make changes in the new one. This quote certainly makes me take a look at what I do everyday and the what changes I can/need to make.

The second quote I loved was given right at the end -

"Be the change you want to see in the world."

WOW! did you get our second set of chills or an eye opening?? Ok maybe it's just me and my love for inspiring messages, following your passion, etc.

I am assuming my will power went straight out the door as neighbors and friends have dropped by with numerous plates of goodies and delicious treats. ACK! Ususally I am pretty good but not this year! *sigh* I guess that is where New Year Resolutions kick in right?............hummmmm........probably not though for me! tee hee hee. I didn't even eat dinner yesterday because I just keep snacking on these goodies. I started compiling them all onto 1 large platter and it sets on the coutner - open, avaiable and ready for comsumption 24/7. And it's soooo good too! So bring on the pounds, I'm enjoying the Holiday Season! I hope your's is just as "sweet!"

The Christmas countdown is not only almost over it's picking up speed as the BIG day draws near! I'm not sure if I am winding up or winding down this week. How do you feel? Are you ready? I feel like some things are definately winding down - dance classes, school, etc and other things like getting ready for guests, holiday parties, cooking, etc is all winding up! So maybe I am somewhere in the middle???.............hummmm......................My list for the day seems to have alot of little tasks and at the end of the day I've been able to get everything crossed off only to pull out a new sheet of paper and start the next days list. I'm definatley making a list and checking it twice! There's just nothing on my list about being naughty or nice! Errands, presents, emails, tasks, shipping packages, cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, etc, etc, etc. No need to bore you with all the details or maybe I already have! LOL!!!

And as I sit here typing my "list" is calling to me. I hope you are enjoying the fun of the Season and all the traditions and events that come this time of year.

OH! and for those who are frequent readers - I got my hair done again! :) Highlights, shortened up.....I'm LOVIN" it! until next time..................

fabric - at least a fat quarter
wheat (You can use rice too. I have been told that the Wheat holds heat better longer)
essential oil - you pick the scent

Step 1: Pick the fabric you like. You can create a pattern using paper for future/multiple use or just measure your piece and cut. I usually cut my fabric to be about 14 x10 inches.

Step 2: Fold your fabric, right sides together so you piece will now measure about 7x10. Sew down 2 sides together leaving one of the short ends open. You can trim your corner or any excess fabric if you want to.

Step 3: Turn your fabric inside out so the right side of the fabric is showing. Give it a quick press with a hot iron to press out your seams and make the fabric looks crisp.

Step 4: Pour your wheat into a large bowl. (this can be purchased in the bulk section of your grocery store for very cheap) Add a few drops of essential oil (optional). This creates a nice aroma as the wheat is heated up. Some of the favorites are lavendar, vanilla, lilac, etc. Stir the wheat to help distribute the oil.

Step 5: Fill your sack with wheat. If you are making a sack this size, I like to use about 3 1/2 cups. Anywhere between 3 -4 cups is a good amount.

Step 6: Turn under the top (open) edge about a 1/2 inch. I just hold both sides of the open edge and turn it under lining up the to seams at the top. It's quick and easy ;)

Step 7: Pin the edge you have just turned under and sew

Step 8: You are finished! You can make these in any size, shape or fabric. They work well for both women and men. I made one using the logo and colors of our local football team for a teachers husband who is a big fan!

Step 9: You can package them any way you like but I always attached a little poem with them.

It's Beginning to look alot like Christmas!

Nothing like freshly fallen snow to really bring on the Holiday Spirit and the feeling of the Season! We don't get alot of snow here locally - well that stays around long anyway. So it was fun to see the white stuff flying all afternoon. All nestled inside this evening watching a Holiday movie with the family there comes a knock at the door. How appropiately that in all the "holiday spirit" of the day it's our neighbors with a plate of Christmas goodies! I hope everyone is spreading Holiday Cheer and enjoying your families. I have been and also been busy on some "behind the scenes work." No telling just yet what is coming......... tee hee hee.

A conversation I had in the car the other day while driving my daughter (age 7) and her friend to a dance performance.

Me: "Miss K, what you want from Santa this year?"

Miss K: "Um, I don't really know, but I would really like $100.00"

Daughter: "Whoa!"

Miss K: " I know."

Me: "What would you do with $100.00?"

Miss K: "Go shopping and stuff."

Daughter: "Yeah, with $100.00 you could buy like a whole building or something."

We are back and alive! We had the best time! I haven't walked that much in so LoooOOOOoong! LOL!!!! Overall the trip was superb! We definately had a few hangups - lost luggage, missed flights, cab rides that took 2 hours instead of 12 mins, etc - but it didn't overshadow the Magic of being in Disneyland and kicking off our Holiday Season as a family.

The kids were such troopers and so good the entire trip! I just about cried when my daughter got to meet Cinderella and she took the time to talk with her for a few minutes. The bet the women who play those princessess have cheeks that hurt by the end of the day! That is ALOT of smiling for them! ha ha!

I also surprised the kiddos with "custom" outfits made just for them to wear to Disneyland our first day there. The best compliment I received that day other than the HUGE smiles on their faces and the all the hugs and kisses when they saw the outfits, was the endless compliments/questions from people asking me what store in Disneyland I had purchased their jeans at. (insert BIG smile on my face here). The kids got alot of attention that day.

WOW! has it really been a week since I have posted? Everyone else must have been busy as well with family, shopping, eating, eating and then more eating because I didn't get any "nagging" emails from my sister to post on my blog! LOL!!!

But yes I did enjoy my Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping with Mother in Law. We made good use of those early hours. It's amazing how much shopping your can get done between the hours of 4am - 10am and still have SO much day left - well........mainly enough day left to nap ;) tee hee hee.

I am transitioning from Fall to Winter/Christmas Decor and yes my tree is up. It's not decorated yet but it's up! I can't wait to see how you decorate your house, tree, door, etc. Be sure to share your great ideas, tips, tricks and let me know when you do!

Hopefully this short little post will do because I am headed out the door for a 4 day family trip to Disneyland!!!!!! It's been in the planning stages for a LOOoooong time and we just surprised my daughter at school right as she was headed to lunch. We had her read the two signs Dad was holding to her little brother out loud.

I LOVE christmas time! Playing holiday music 24/7 and getting in the spirit! I can't wait! I'm not the only one getting in the mood either. Sandi is right there along with me! tee hee hee. Yes I love Thanksgiving and I am not overlooking it, but for me it's like the kick off of the season! Growing up we always put up the Christmas tree either the day after Thanksgiving or on Thanksgiving night. It's just part of that Holiday - BUT the tree definately has to come down the day after Christmas. *shudder* It just has to. HA!

Ok so why am I blogging on about Christmas? Well,for one, it's just a few short days until my tree will be lighting up my living room AND I couldn't wait to share a few fun ideas with you!

Have you seen these? Custom Printed M and Ms! how fun are those! You can have 2 different messages placed on them and colors???? There's LOTS of color combinations to choose from! I think it's a fun way to get a chocolate fix and spread some Christmas cheer........or let someone know you are thinking about them. How "sweet" (wink)

With Christmas, of course, comes traditions. My sister just passed along a fun little gift that will become a new tradition this year at my house and I wanted to give you a heads up if you wanted to start it as well. Everyone..........meet Mr. Peeps. tee hee hee.

He came to our house in a small brown bag labeled " Open Thanksgiving night after the kids are in bed. " Oooh! sounds sort of fun! HA! But it's all for the kiddos and it's all in good fun. Inside was a little elf and the following poem:

Christmas is approaching, and this is the day

Santa has sent Mr. Peeps to your house to stay.

He send this small elf to your house and mine.

The day after Thanksgiving, He must be on time.

Mr. Peeps has a purpose. His purpose will be,

To whisper to Santa all the good that he sees.

Soon after he gets here, he moves only at night

To high places, low places, he stays in plain sight.

In the kitchen, for instance, he sits high on a shelf.

Mr. Peeps can sit anywhere, for he is an elf.

He holds very still when he thinks you are watching.

His magic is precious, it fades with on touching.

He sits on the tree on Christmas Eve day.

He knows that Santa is soon on his way.

He waits and he waits without making a noise.

He waits until Santa arrives with the toys.

So you better be nice and mind what you say

Because Mr. Peeps will tell Santa when he comes with his sleigh.

DIY Picture this - tutorial

I'm not sure if anything is faster than this quick DIY project. If you want to add a some color or something unique to your home decor try this!

1. Pop some fabric that you love behind a frame and you are done!
2. Group several frames together, each with a different fabric, for a more dramatic display.
3. AND these are sooo quick and easy to make a quick change when the seasons change, holiday time, etc.

Many of you have seen photos of my entryway. Don't stop at just frames! There are several options of "objects" to place fabric behind besides just picture frames - how about windows?

Here's some ideas for picture frames too! They can go anywhere in your house including the bathroom like these:

You should always surround yourself with things that you love. These are great ways to pops of color, design and pattern anywhere in your house. Now if you want to get a bit more crafty, break out the supplies and lets get started!

Framed silhouettes -

Supplies needed:

Fabrics - or patterned scrapbooking papers
fusible fleece or interfacing (optional)
iron
picture frame
fabric marker
silhouette pattern
fun things to embellish with - ribbons, etc

Step 1: Pick your fabrics. (or papers. in this project I will be referring to fabrics) You will need one for the background and one for the silhouette.

Step 2: Apply the interfacing or fusible fleece to the back of your silhouette fabric per manufacturers instructions. This step is optional but if you want to add dimension to your silhouette use the fusible fleece. If you want to keep the edges neat, crisp, clean and free from fraying without any dimension use the interfacing.

Step 3: Using your Fabric Marker, trace your silhouette on the back side of your fused fabric and backwards too. This will ensure when you flip it over it's not facing the wrong way in the case of an alphabet letter, etc. ** Your Silhouette can be of ANYTHING - an initial letter, your child, favorite animal, favorite shape. Look to magazines, books, die cut shapes, stencils, etc to help you find a pattern.

Step 4: Cut out your silhouette and place it on your background fabric. Place the glass from the picture frame on top of your design and trace around it with a fabric marker. Set the glass aside and cut out the background fabric.

Step 5: Your design might look complete now but if it doesn't and you feel it still needs alittle something - now's the time to embellish! I used black ribbon to set it off from the frame. I simply cut 4 lengths and placed them in the pattern I liked. I used a bit of a glue stick to keep the pieces in place too. You don't have to use a lot. It's just a quick easy technique to keep it together before you place it in the frame.

Step 6: Cut any ribbon, fabrics or other embellishments that are hanging over the edges and place it in your frame. Polish the glass and display!

Splurging and deception

Cue the Daytime Soap Opera music. tee hee hee. I couldn't help but think of something dramatic after typing the title - HA! Actually it's all in good fun.

After several errands to run with my little guy in tow yesterday I splurged on Celine Dion's New CD Taking Chances as I passed by it on the shelves. It came with an extra CD of 8 of her greatest hits for a great low price so I had to snatch it up. Didn't you just LOVE seeing her on Oprah? She's seems so personable, considerate and real. I love her new sound too. It's so different for her but I like it. So that explains the "splurging" part. Now onto the deception - cue evil laugh - MUwahahaHAHaha.

I ordered Jessica Seinfelds new cookbook Deceptively Delicious the day I heard about it on Oprah and watched the show. It took awhile to arrive but I LOVE IT! I doesn't seem that hard to do - it's just a change - and for me small and little at a time until it becomes a habit and I get a groove down of creating my Purees! But our first meal was a success! I made chicken nuggets and didn't have any of the purees on hand that she recommended for the recipe but what veg. puree I did throw in was just fine. And the kids didn't know! tee hee hee. Love it! It's a fun change that I can't wait to do more of!

Anyone been crafting???? I'd love to see some pictures if anyone has tried the magnets. There have been lots of comments left with great alternative ideas and links for supplies too - don't miss those! I have a few more ideas to share too! Anyone want to see?? *snicker*

week 2 - Self portrait Challenge theme for November is "what I wear". They want to see what you wear and where you are going or the story behind the outfit. I thought it would be fun to share what I wore this weekend while doing a photoshoot. I was asked by a local photographer to be one of many women to help her with some photos for a client. The Client - who is a OB/GYN doctor - is having his office redecorated and is going for a "women in all seasons" theme. Old, young, middle age, tall, short, pregnant, blond, redhead, etc. It was fun to be asked - I was one of the "tall" women *snicker*. There has certain attire we were supposed to wear and I was lucky enough to get some single shots taken of me and that the photographer sent me a sneak peek of one of the photos.

I love the effects she used and the fun wardrobe. White blouse, loose tie. Sexy - LOL!!! You can see my week 1 photo here and more of the photographers photos here on flickr.

A Feathered Nest

The celebration of a new baby is always a joyous occasion and when it's family it makes it even a bit more special. What do you get when all the Ladies - Grandma, Aunts, cousins, inlaws, sisters - come together with their creative minds and talented fingers? Not only a great night of womanhood, bonding and chatting but the guest of honor, my cousin, leaves with a "feathered nest" for her upcoming little chickidee.

The handmade invitation arrived and set the tone for the event. "Come and help her Feather her nest!" The table was laid out with small trees, greenery, twigs and a peek of a little bird here and there. Not to mention the accent of feathers here and there, themed goodies likesmall chocolate nests with tiny candy eggs in them - yum, and a few areas set up for the creative mind and craft fingers to get started! It was one of my favorite baby showers I've attended. Laid back, low key and no crazy baby shower games. Plus being wrapped up in conversation and girl talk with my family really made the night. Everyone who attended had the opportunity to help handquilt a small blanket for the baby and also dip into some paints on stretched canvas, unfinished wooden frames and even a few baby t-shirts and create something from the heart for the baby and her new "nest" when she arrives.

The gift opening was the last event of the evening and fun as we "Awwwwww'd" over all the small itty bitty items she was given. One of the items she recieved from me was a handbag that I just LOVED how it turned out. Rich in texture, color and just the hint of sparkle. I thought it fit her personality just right. I hope she enjoys it.

The whole "feathered nest" theme has gotten me thinking about birds, nests, new babies, etc and is helping me in my creativity on a little "nesting" project of my own. NO - I'm not pregnant. tee hee hee - but I am working out the details for an exciting upcoming project. Mums still the word on this BIG announcement until I get a few more details nailed down. I promise to share when I do! Hopefully you will share in my excitement too! In the meantime, enjoy these fun sites and blog I found all centered around the "feathered nest" theme.

I love the style of these blogs titled The Feathered Nest and The Feathered Nest. Also, a fun site by The Knot is called The Nest. So The Knot helps you get married and The Nest helps you out once the wedding is over - tee hee hee. And my favorite site is Nest. This site is new to me so I still need to do more reading up on it but I love the concept - Helping other women artists. They have a blog too! Looks like I'll be adding another great blog to my list! Pumpkin Bread

I'm not one for sharing recipes on my blog - I don't think I've shared one yet but hey, there's a first time for everything right???

This is one of my favorite recipes that gets saved and only made in the fall. It's always a hit with however I share a loaf with and my Grandma and Grandpa loved it when I would stop by gifting them each their "own" small loaf. They weren't much for sharing this bread. tee hee hee. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Bread

2 c. canned pumpkin

3 c. sugar

1 c. water

1 c. veg. oil

4 eggs

3 1/3 c. all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp nutmeg

3/4 tsp ground cloves

Heat overn to 350. In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin, sugar, water, vegetable oil and eggs. Beat until well mixed.

Measure the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and baking powder, nutmeg and ground cloves into a seperate bowl. Then stir until combined. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the pumpkin mixture, beating until smooth.

Grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans and dust them with flour. Evenly divide the batter between them. Bake for 60 - 70 mins or until toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 - 15 min. Then remove from pans by inverting them onto a rack and tapping the bottoms. Slice and serve plain, buttered or with cream cheese.

Self Portrait Challenge - [What I wear] wk 1

November's theme is ~ What I Wear ~ on Self Portrait Challenge. Different days bring different events but one thing holds steady in my daily routine - Get up and get ready. RARELY I don't. I do like to take a lazy morning every once in awhile but it's never on a weekday. Too much to get done. I always have somewhere to go and I just work better when I'm in "work" mode. That means out of the "comfy clothes", showered, makeup on, hair done and sporting a pair of shoes with some sort of heel. *snicker* I really don't need to be any taller but I love to wear shoes with a bit of a heel. Love a nice ballet flat too, don't get my wrong, but most of the time you will see me in heels! I snapped this photo of me today - getting ready to head out the door and accomplish a list of errands. More self portrait photos to come this month...................

1. I use to play the saxophone when I was young. HA! My sisters HATED having to listen to me practice - that interest only lasted a year.

2. I used to be dancer. I performed at Half Time shows, taught at a dance studio and also coached a high school dance team. In that time I also was privledged to be in a parade down Main Street at Disneyland, perform on ESPN twice in the Cheer and Dance Competitions and Head up the Hollywood Christmas Parade on TV too. *sigh* the good ol' days (wink)

3. I secretly like to watch Gossip Girl - *snicker* SSSssshHHHHHHHhhhh! It's my little guilty pleasure mid week. Sort of takes me back to the days I watched Beverly Hills 90210. LOL!!! I can just zone out and enjoy alittle entertainment.

4. I have double joined elbows which always makes for a fun party trick or weird conversation piece.

5. I am 1 of 4 Girls in my family. No brothers. I fall second in the line up and am also the Tallest. Taller than all my sisters and my parents too! Secretly always wished I had an older brother in the mix.

6. My hair was once a "purpleish" color. A bad choice in a home hair dye job. Luckily it was the wash out kind. Still, it took a few weeks to "soften" the color and by the end of the month it was back to "normalish" - tee hee hee.

7. I love Mexican food! The yummy basket- or in my case basketS- of chips and salsa they give you before the meal is my favorite part! Just keep them comin' boys! If the salsa is REALLY good I'm usually pretty full by the time my actual meal arrives. My step grandmother makes the BEST homemade salsa and I once almost ate an entire jar of it by myself in one sitting while I was pregnant! whew!

A Handmade Holiday

I think November 1st marks the "official" start of the Holidays. Well at least for me. ;) The countdown for Christmas begins, the planning trips home for Thanksgiving, readying the house for guests, parties and get togethers with loved ones and dear friends. Oh! Plus the start of Holiday Bazaars too! I love alittle handmade for the Holidays. Nothing says more from the giver or to the receiver when some time has been taken to craft an item and it is given with love. Expecially when it comes from your kiddos. I just cherish those handmade school "gifts" that they are bursting at the seams to give you and just about tell you everyday what it is they made.

Well if you love alittle handcrafted for your Holiday decor or to put under your tree I've got a few resources to help you out! Enjoy the festive look for today! I thought it would be fun for a change.

Do you have all trick and treat candy to hand out??? I found it interesting that the halloween isles at the store where cleared out today and all the merchandise moved to another location and on SALE! But what really made it interesting was the shelves were being completely stocked with Christmas items! Bring on the season! LOL!!

I love to buy off season - whether it's clothes for the kids, after christmas sales, whatever! I love a good bargain and tucking it away until it's season rolls around again and then it's all new! and I find it really love it because I got it for such a great bargain.

I held true to my statement of no sugary sweets on tuesday after waaaaay too much over the weekend. yeah! I did it! I almost gave in but I feel so much better - plus I know today holds alot of sugar!!!! *sigh*

There's a trend going around here in my area and I wonder if it's the same in your area as well. It seems door to door trick or treating is on the way out and "safe" trick or treating is the on the rise. We've TRUNK or treated for the past 5 years at our local church and the kids get enough candy there that we only hit a few neighbors to see their kids and have a quick visit. But this year one of the local high schools is having trick or treating inside the school, a new local shopping area is also having store to store trick or treating and one of the large malls always has store to store trick or treating as well. All well lit areas, safe environments and some of them even warm. All their flyers talk about "safe" trick or treating and it seems to becoming more popular. At least in my area. What about yours? Do you still trick or treat door to door or do you attend these new type events or TRUNK or treat? I'd love to know!

Sugar Rush

Ugh! So many sweets and we haven't even hit Halloween yet *sigh* We've had a weekend full of birthday cakes for a niece and nephew, followed up by something sweet I cooked up on Sunday afternoon, ate the leftovers of that Monday and then attended a halloween party last night! I'm done! No sugary goodness for me today and then on Halloween I KNOW I will sneak a little here and there. *wink* But then I will probably be regretting it again like I am right now.

So what do you do about the sugar overload?? I want my kids to have fun on Halloween and we have always trick or treated but I really don't like all the candy they come home with that I have to deal with every moment of the day. "Can I have another piece?" "I want more candy." And the fits, whining and highs and lows they go through. No thanks! anyone else go through the same battles??

do you limit how much they get each day? Do you throw some of it out? Do you just let them have at it and when it's gone it's gone??? HELP!!!! I'd love to hear your advice!

Name Calling

LOL!!! So I just got a call from my older sister and she said, "Come on blog slacker. Your last post was Thursday. " *snicker* Although I've never cared to be called names (wink) I guess this one wasn't so bad since I guess she takes an interest in my blog and wants to see something new! LOL!!!

I hadn't posted anything new because I wanted to make sure everyone - who would take an interest in it - would see my DIY fridge magnets tutorial. Seems like once I post something new blog readers don't always scroll far enough past the "newest" post to see what is under it in the event that I post 2 that day or one quickly right after the other. SO - that is my reasoning for being a "blog slacker"

And since she called me out on it and wants to see something new, how about I turn the blog on her! I recently did an informal photoshoot of her and her fiance. She just wanted a few quick photos taken so she can send one to the local newspaper, etc. The fall colors were gorgeous and the day was perfect! The location we went too was BUSY with about 4 different high school seniors getting their pictures done after a week of rainy bad weather. Seems like everyone had the same idea that day! Here's a little collage I created for her! (now let's just hope I don't really get in trouble for this! *wink*)

Are you in violation of a decorating NO - NO???? *gasp* the thought!!! I couldn't help but laugh and get a kick out of a post I saw on Ribbon Rock Star's blog. Apparently HGTV did a show on the 25 biggest decorating blunders - what a hoot! We don't do cable so I missed it but they have posted them online with pictures and all! It's a must see! Hurry on over and check it out them come back and spill your blunders! Come on, I am sure we are all guilty of at least one. And just to be fair I will go first.

*deep breath* Ok, I'm ready............. My name is Megan and I have commited some decorating blunders. (the crowd falls silent) But this is a non-judging and safe environment right???? ha ha - ok back on track here!

Sadly - we have a toilet rug - BUT only in 1 of the three bathrooms - so it's not all that bad right????

I definately have an undressed foyer which I am trying to rectify but haven't found the right pieces of furniture yet - the search continues.....

and the fake flowers - *sigh* - I really try to NOT have alot. I definately prefer dried, fresh and natural stuff but old habits and convience are hard to break. I did see the Oprah episode with Nate where he said - NO FAKE FLOWERS - anywhere - ever! I felt a twinge of guilt and embarrassment but then I got over it! ha! Hey, we all do what we can do and afford right??? ;)

So that's all I am revealing about myself *snicker* - now just to make me feel better - tell me yours!!! (insert evil laugh here) Muwahhahahaha!

DIY Fridge magnets and pushpins - tutorial

I love taking fabric and using it on other fun crafting projects besides just sewing or what you would typically expect. I have several projects I have done over the last couple of months and thought I would share them with you! So if you - or your kids - are itching for a little DIY project, here's a great one for the whole family!

Fridge magnets and pushpins

step 1: gathering the supplies - you will need largecrafting "bubbles" with one side that is flat. You can use any size you like. Magnets - make sure your magnets are large enough to support the size of your bubbles. If they are too small the finished magnet will slowly slide down your refrigerator when you try to use it to actually hold any papers. Small pushpins with a flat head if possible. Craft glue - I prefer E600 - it's great for many projects, is clear and dries fast too. And then of course your fabrics or patterned scrapbooking type papers if you don't have fabrics on hand. Scissors, and something to trace with - I like using a fabric marker. Fusible interfacing or fusible fleece - optional.

Step 2: Layout your fabrics and place your bubbles
over top moving it around until you find a pattern that you like. Cut around the pattern in a small square and continue with as many fabrics and patterns for the magnets that you want to make. Optional step: Fuse interfacing or fleece to the back of your precut squares on the wrong side of the fabric. This will give the back of your magnets a finished look and keep the fabric from fraying when you cut it and use your magnets.

Step 3: Trace around your bubble and cut out your circle. Repeat with all your cut squares.

Step 4: Using a toothpick, squeeze out some glue and use the toothpick to apply it to the right side of your fabric. Place a nice medium sized glop in the center of the circle. Take your bubble and place it on top of the glue and press firmly and evenly down. The glue will race for the outside edges - be sure to push out any or as many glue bubbles as you can. Set aside to dry and repeat until finished.

Step 5: Using craft or hot glue adhere
your magnets to the back and place them right side up to dry. Remember to use a large enough magnet for the size of your craft bubble.

Step 6: Once dry they can dot your fridge, metal file cabinet, etc. Another great idea is to place them in a small container like an altoids tin, wrap it up with some ribbon and you have a great personalized gift to give away! Enjoy!

Push pins

To make push pins for your bulletin board simple
use the smaller size craft bubbles and follow steps 1 - 4 as outlined above. Then, instead of gluing a magnet to the back glue a flat headed push pin. Set pin side up to dry.

What a fun week with 2 trips to 2 different pumpkin patches! The first was a fieldtrip with my little guys preschool and the second was just some good ole' family time! I loved being in the colors, sights, smells and feel of the season. By "feel" I mean cold - and although I despise being cold, it wasn't so bad when you're trudging through a pumpkin patch with a tiny hand in yours as you search for the perfect pumpkin. Here's a few photos I'd thought I'd share from our 2 different pumpkin adventures.

Jingle Bell Rockin' it this year!

The ladies of the Roxy & Rocco design group asked me to join them for thier "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree launch on ebay and my theme was the song Jingle Bell Rock. I created a funky "rockin" 3 piece outfit with my mosaic jeans, applique shimmery tee and hat! Bren modeled for me and she completely nailed.........or should I say "rocked"the photoshoot! There are certain things you look to forward to having or you "save" for special occasions and only cook/buy them a few times a year. One of those things for me is these small, scrumptious, sugary coated, homemade donuts. yummmmmmm. They sell them at a pumpkin patch we have visited for the last 2 years and I look forward to getting some when we go. They always serve them warm and they just melt in your mouth and fill you with warmth as the chilly air starts to set in.

As a mother of a daughter I just can't help but share these. Some have been saved in a my favorites for a long time now and few have just been added. Embrace your daughters this weekend and let them know how special they. Help them to see and know what REAL BEAUTY is. My favorite that my daughter likes to watch with me is called True Colors.

Another good one is the The Evolution of Beauty. And Dove's newest one is called Onslaught which is such a good reminder for us as women too just how much STUFF we AND our kids are bombarded with each day.

What a wonderful box full of goodies and surprises! I've been trying for months to snag one from The Sampler. If you haven't heard of this yet it's worth checking out from the buyers perspective and the independent designer/company too! ;)

They collect "samples" of products from companies all over the place. Everything from soaps, magazines, jewerly, buttons, fabric, notepads, etc, etc, etc. FUN, unique stuff! They go on sale on the website on a scheduled day at 2 different scheduled times and they sell out SOOOO fast! This last month they were able to create more "sampler boxes" than before making more available on selling day and I was FINALLY able to snatch one up! The Magic of the Mary Poppins Bag

Who Doesn't love the "Practically Perfect in Everyway" Nanny with her fair complexion, beautiful voice and magical touch or spin on the everyday task or chores? I had the chance yesterday to have a bit of her "magic" on a one day road trip I went on with my Mom and youngest Sister.

The Mary Poppins Bag is a fun way to help your kids when you travel. It helps make the trip magical and fun with surprises all along the way! We rode in my Sisters car and this was an idea she had just learned about and was eager to try. I am anxious to put my own Magical Bag together and give it a whirl with my kids too!

Her Mary Poppins Bag was complied for my neice age 2 and my little guy age 3. But before you start to collect your fun items for your bag you need to create your "travel time line".

1. Your Travel Time line will hang between the windows of your back seat and be a visual ROAD MAP from your beginning point to your final destination. Find a piece of string, yarn, ribbon, etc. She used Bias Tape and it
worked great!!!! Measure the width of your car - giving yourself a some extra slack room on each side and cut. Round up some clothespins, papers, markers, tape or glue. Pick out cities, monuments, large landmarks, etc along the route of your trip - evenly spaced away from each other if you can. Cut small pieces of paper or cardstock out and write these places on them. Tape or glue the paper to the clothespin. The amount of places you pick along the way depends on the length of your trip and the age of your children. Smaller children may need more while older ones may be able to wait longer inbetween. When you are ready to go you will roll down the windows a bit and slip in your string/ribbon on each side, pulling it tight so it will be straight and out of the way off passengers.

2. The fun begins! Prepping your Mary Poppins Bag!!!! You will need to find a large "carpet" bag. Not really, but a good large bag is Key. It would be nice if this bag was specifically reserved for this purpose as well. This bag needs to be filled with fun snacks, toys, games, books and other items that your kids will get to discover along their trip! As you reach each clothespin destination something else gets brought out of the Mary Poppins bag! The more excited you are about it the more your kids will be too! Make sure you are the one pulling the items out of the bag. We don't want to ruin the surprise of the next item for the kids. **PLUS, you also take down that clothespin and your children can "SEE" how far you have already gone on your travel timeline.**

She stocked her bag with a few key items. The first one was she took 2 pillowcases and a plastic serving tray and hot glued the tray to the pillowcase. When we hit our first destination the trays emerged from the bag and she stuff a pillow into the pillow case. Now the kids had a lap tray for other fun activities through the rest of the trip. We also gave them from fruit snacks on their trays as this time and engaged them in a color sorting game and counting too. They loved it! The next clothespin destination they received a coloring page and some crayons. The trays worked great for this because the raised edge kept the crayons from rolling off the end and getting lost in the car.

Here's a few more ideas for your Mary Poppins Bag:

Snacks - crackers, cheese sticks, etc

treats - sweet ones like candy, suckers, etc

juice boxes

books

coloring book - with tear away pages b/c they don't really need the whole book to themselves

crayons

book on tape/CD

file folder games

small toys like dolls, cars, action figures

dry erase board - you can easily create a dry erase surface with some contact paper and cardstock

some sing-a-long CD's - get the family involved in singing, actions to the words, etc

movie

puzzles

crosswords/word search

handheld electronic game

binoculars - my kids love playing with these

travel bingo game

etc

etc

etc

the possibilites are endless! Tailor your bag to the age and preference of your Children! You can add to the excitement of your snacks too by placing them in a
brown paper sack and not allowing your child to look into the bag - just reach in and pick out one item. We did this with our "sucker treats" bag. What you get is what you get! Then we challenged them to see who could suck on it the longest and make it last. Little things for little ones can be sooo exciting and fun! And they will surprise you with their creativity of the items you give them. Plain ole' suckers became a fun game of "CHEERS" between the two of them which produced lots of giggles, smiles and good memories.

WHooooOOOO can resist all those cute owls and other birds that are so hot this season! I found some owl themed fabrics that I really related too with my type of style and create a little mini collection. All items are currently available on Ebay! I've created an outfit for girls with my own handrawn tree pattern. I just love that little owl tucked inside the tree! I've also created a few items for YOU as well! Now onto week 2! I'm constantly trying to keep my little guys belly full! He has been that way since birth - Just loves to eat. Yesterday we shared a little dessert after lunch of milk and cookies. Self Portrait Challenge -wk 1 - Flavored milk

As some of you may have noticed I haven't posted any SPC photos in a month. Well..................last month the challenge topic was Bathrooms and I just couldn't get myself to post any pictures. I viewed several beautiful photos done very well and I even took some shots myself but I just couldn't do it. The bathroom seems like such a personal place to me. *snicker* So onward and upward! Octobers theme is Food! Now food, I can do ;) LOL!!! We were asked to capture your relationship with food. Is it a constant battle for you between dieting and indulging. Or you are rigorous and can avoid temptation? Do you love to cook and feed others or are you a health nut eating only nuts and fruit?

I started with Breakfast. I used to always eat old cereal every morning. I steered a bit away from that and every once in awhile I will even dip into a completely sugary cereal that takes me back to my childhood. Eating those cereals like fruit loops or captain crunch that left the roof of my mouth stratched and raw. LOL!!! and yet being hungry again too quickly after as their wasn't enough to the cereal to actually stay with me. One thing that is fun about those sweet tasting cereals is the milk at the end. It's flavored - maybe it's chocolate, or fruity - but it's always sweet. Drink up!

I'm hearing voices....

You can often hear "artistic" or "creative" people say - "The colors (insert whatever expression you wish - music, fabric, paints,etc) just spoke to me. " Right? and I myself am guilty of saying that phrase or something similiar. Usually designs do come together easily saying, "Oh! pick me! pick me!" and as soon as I know it there I have a stack of fabrics ready to go!

I visited a local fabric store this week to pick up a few notions and well found myself meandering through the aisles and then back again. I think I covered about every inch of the store! LOL!!! No kids, no set expecations of "I've got to find this type of fabric" and time! Yes, I had some time to just be- that is before my husband would call or start texting me about how much longer I would be. *snicker* which just to clarify in case he reads this - he never did. He just watched the kids without any complaints - thank you!!!!

Ok, back on track here. The fabrics - they didn't really come all together at once but when I did the find the perfect "starting" fabric all the others starting jumping out and "speaking" to me. I knew exactly what I wanted to create! My cart was soo full with bolts of fabric people starting asking me what I going to create and giving me extra long glances as I passed by as if to scope me out seeing if I had something they might want or thinking they were missing a sale! tee hee hee

While we are on this subject - anyone else hate - actually I don't like to use that word - dislike - there that's better. Anyone else dislike when the person at the cutting counter asks, "What are you making?" I dread it! I always get "the look." If I say, "I'm making a children's outfit, or a skirt, etc" they give a me this look as if to be thinking to themselves, "whoa! these are wild fabrics to be putting together. Or these fabrics or for making quilts not clothing, etc." I usually just pass on the question and remark by saying, "Oh just building up my stash." I need to come up with some whitty and wild answer that will really take them back! HA!

So all in all I'm not crazy but the fabric does talk to me from time to time. From the picture you can also possibly see what I'll be working on next!

Holiday Spirit?

It's here! My first Holiday inspired outfit of the season - grinch style! A fun collaboration between 4 different designers all with a different area of expertise. I contributed the rockin' mosaic jeans *snicker* - yes it's my blog so I can toot my own horn right? (wink, wink) MonalisaBoutique designed the Euro Twirly top plus she took all the photos and created the festive template as well. Petite Fleur Creation appliqued an adorable jacket and matching tee. And what outfit is complete without jewels! Tara30us created 3 perfectly matching pieces of jewerly to top the outfit off!

alittle more Fall in the air

Or I guess you could say around my house. Anyone tired of me sharing some Fall decorating ideas???? I guess it shouldn't be too bad - I've only made 2 posts on the subject with this being the third. And since we are on the subject - anyone else LOVING the daily newsletter from BGH? wowee!!! What gorgeous pictures and fabulous ideas! My head is swimming with projects I'd love to do!

This week I was able to take a basket my mom was discarding into the "yard sale" pile and make it my new centerpiece for the dining room table. With a little help from my "resources" - (aka - all my extra stuff in cupboards and boxes) *snicker*, and a good sale on some dried and artificial plants I now have a centerpiece I love!

I also ventured out to the garden and harvested gobs of mini pumpkins. Theywere proudly placed in a black shallow wooden tray and sit in the middle of our kitchen island.

Switching gears from decorating to designing - I've got a sneak peek! Here's some fabrics I am working with! hummmm........what will they get turned into???? I've got several new items that will be added to my website VERY soon and also a few auctions on Ebay for those who love the thrill of bidding.

More Autumn decorating

I'm glad that so many of you have enjoyed my decor post. I realized there were a few more items I still needed to share and I have come across a few more ideas I wanted to share as well. First one is if you haven't seen or picked up the latest edition of Better Homes and Garden Magazine - it's fantastic! so many great fun ideas and who doesn't just drool over their pictures. Oh! Love it! They have several cute, stylish yet fun ideas for fall and Halloween too! One of my favorite ideas I saw in their magazine a few years ago they have brought back with a new design this year. Anyway, here is the first version (picture from last year) - stacking pumpkins in a planter and adding leaves, berries etc by your front door or on your porch. I received so many compliments last year. I would love to try their new version this year so snag a magazine to see what they did differently. I'll be sure to post more pictures if I actually get to that "project". *snicker*

Their site is FULL of great ideas for this time of year. I especially love their Fun ways to add Holiday Spirit feature. 19 slideshow pictures with a brief description of how to acheive that same look! Worth taking a peek! *sigh* - Fall is in the air today and I am LOVIN' IT! The change of seasons brings a new type of energy with it and what better a way to recharge your own energy than with a little getaway trip! Impromptu one at that. Sometimes those can be the best trips! Just throw a few things in a bag - surprise the kids - and head out of town! That is what we did this weekend. We headed to the mountains to a resort town by the lake only a couple of hours away. A quick reservation, great heated indoor pool for the kids, a late night swim once we arrived and beautiful views of the mountains and our surroundings as the sun lit up where we had arrived in the dark the night before, started our day off right. It was a bit chilly in the moutains but such a nice change and the quaintness of the buildings, shops, etc was just refreshing. We didn't waste anytime getting up and getting going either. Our first objective was to drive completely around the lake. We saw some gorgeous homes, deer and stopped along the way to play a bit on the beaches in the 40 some degree morning weather. brrrr. I altered this picture a bit to look more like an old "postcard" - wish you were here.

We explored the town, a few shops and had lunch with a view of the lake and the changing leaves on the trees. Definately a slower pace in smaller towns, and it's good to slow down every now and then right? We also drove to the neighboring new resort - very fancy schmancy - still underconstruction but still fun none the less to tour the grounds, golf course, new homes going in and all the views! wow!!! I took some "artsy fartsy" shots as my hubby likes to call them. I hope you don't mind me sharing a few from our trip.

I just realized that my favorite shots are all ones where I am pretty much looking up at the object I am going to photograph - interesting. wonder what that means? I think I love the way they stand out against the bright blue clear sky. Hopefully you all get some time to recharge you batteries too and spend alittle time with you families away from your everyday life before the holiday season begins.

Loving Fall

I don't think Fall has officially begun - at least not for a few more days but the weather here today sure made it feel like fall! The autumn season is my favorite! It's a time for layering up, cuddling in, gorgeous colors, family gatherings, the begin of the Holiday Season, hearty home cooked meals, breads, etc. I could go on and on. We all associate certain things with each season - smells, colors, decor, events, certain foods, etc. I've taken a bit of time to start decorating my home to reflect the season! It's still a work in progess but here's a few pictures and ideas for you. Maybe they will spark you do alittle decorating too and maybe give you a new idea or two.

One thing I do is I change out several containers, vases, etc that I have at my house 2 or 3 times a year to relfect the season or whatever color or texture is my new infatuation! *wink* For fall I almost always fill these containers with dried grain/grasses, curly willow sticks, etc. Very earthy and a natural feel to them. I also like to "layer" up items for interest and more of grouping feel.

I love candles for anytime of the year as well. The "mood" that they set on a crisp fall evening can be so relaxing and just feels like home to me. Speaking of smells I also stocked up at Bath and Body Works a few weeks ago on their wallflower refill kits when they had their Buy one get one FREE sale - woohoo!!! Love a good sale. So if you stopped by my house would smell like one of the following scents from now through Christmas - Cinnamon Stick, Creamy Caramel, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, and Kitchen Spice. The creamy caramel could be dangerous though as it smells soooo delicous - makes me want to eat sweets all day!

I'm really into filling clear glass containers with objects - like my lemons - and placing them around my house full of color, great and interesting shapes and textures. Here's a few to share - and the mini pumpkins are from my own garden too!

and lastly - let's talk candlesticks! I love taking objects from around my house and re-arranging them and giving them new life in a new spot or grouping. I have some black candlesticks that sit on a sofa table in my living room and I wanted to share some ideas of how you can use them for more than just candles. All of these examples could be used on an entrance table, as a centerpiece, etc. Get creative! I took all my pictures at my dining room table just for lighting purposes.

I started simple with a "clean" feel to it. I have recently discovered or realized I love round objects! Ha! how funny is that. I just picked up these different balls and plunked them on top of the candlesticks paired with a favorite small silver vase and a green "berry" type candle ring. Easy peasy and looks great! Then I really pulled Fall in by bringing in pumpkins - mixing up the feel and the colors.

Adding gourds, leaves, branches, candles - whatever you LOVE you can create a lovely Autumn grouping that is easy to create and change anytime you want!

Here's a few pictures from my house last year too for more ideas.

The first picture I found the green mossy basket, placed some floral foam in the bottom and then layered each flower, berry, etc in a row starting at the back and working my way forward. The second picture I found a shallow black wooden tray in my "stash" of stuff and filled it with random autumn colored objects, vegetables, smooth river rocks and placed a candle holder in the middle and added branches around the outside. This centerpiece was really easy to just pick up and move off of the table when it was meal time.

Woohoo! another fun mail day! Erin contacted me about creating a funky apron for her to wear at an upcoming indie craft show. She had a few ideas about what she wanted but also left a few details up to me - which I LOVE! She wanted fashionable, yet functional and the more funky it was the better! Here's what I came up with! I almost wanted to keep it for myself! *snicker* I sent it off without her seeing it first and crossed my fingers that she would like it! and well............if you want to know what she thought when she got it take a look HERE

We also decided on a "swap" of merchandise - I've loved her wrap bracelets from afar for awhile so I was excited to swap for one of those! My jewerly arrived today and I absolutely love it! She hung an "M" charm from the bracelet and I love all the colors and shapes of the beads. She also included an EXTRA surprise and I couldn't have been more pleased and giddy when I opened the cute tin and found a pair of earrings inside! Yes the earrings are cute and right up my alley but I love them even more because they are my favorite color!!!! THANK YOU so much Erin! Both pieces couldn't have been more perfect!

A positively "Posh" afternoon

After shipping off 3 orders today and getting a fourth one underway I figured I was due for a bit of fun! And with the autumn season approaching - my favorite by the way - I am itching to break out the Fall Decor and switch the colors around in my living room, dining room and Kitchen. Plus a few new things wouldn't hurt right? (wink) Shopping here I come! I also tend to get the urge to craft and create in the fall. Must be some sort of "nesting" instinct - to snuggle down in the warm blankets, break out the sweaters and cook hearty warm meals for the family. Do you get that way too???

So I headed out to a craft store to see what fun containers I could find or what jumped out at me. Sadly - nothing did. *sigh* Didn't really have what I was looking for. I did walk out with a can of spray adhesive - more on that to come later. (wink, wink)

Next stop was a home decor outlet store in the area that is only open on Thursdays. They have great stuff at great prices but its a madhouse! Everyone is there for opening for sure b/c once it's gone it may be gone for good. Their store "policy" or suggestion is - "If you like it, buy it. It may not be here next week." I hadn't been in awhile because it can be crazy - the parking is worse - and taking kids there isn't always the best idea or easiest thing to manage. But what's a mother to do. I'm hardly every without one of them! LOL!!! Luckily for me my little guy behaved so nicely and had fun "touching" everything and discovering "treasures" with me as well. We emerged from the store Victorious! I found the "containers" I was wanting plus a few fun things to help spruce up our living area. I've got a few "projects" I'm anxious to complete to help us get organized with school items etc. I'll share those as I get them finished - hopefully soon.

My son fell asleep on the way home from our shopping excursion so iwith a bit of quiet time before my daughter would be out of school, I felt like I needed alittleentertainment - and I found it! I hardly EVER watch TV during the day and only watch TV at night when the regular season of my favorite shows starts again. So I've been alittle TV deprived this summer - if you exclude DVDs. ANYWAY - anyone feel like I am rambling on and on *snicker* - I happened to stumble upon the TV show "Victoria Beckham comes to America" on the internet the other day and didn't get a chance to watch it. It was hilarious!!!! she is funny and they way the producers put it together was funny! Just the amount of comic relief I needed. She uses words like "Fabulous" and "Major" frequently. I love the english accent and their terms for certain items like "knickers" instead of underwear to just great! Makes me want to walk around being "Fabulous" with my big sunglasses and pouty lips! LOL!!! The show also showed her personable side which you don't get from the photos of her - but really - who would enjoy paparazzi around you 24/7 every time you try to leave your house - UGH!

So all in all it was a positively "posh" afternoon. I enjoyed every minute! Back to decorating for fall - I'm torn about how to decorate for "halloween" this year.I'm trying to find a balance between fun halloween items that the kids might enjoy being around for Halloween YET still have them reflect my style. do you know what I mean? We really don't have any halloween decor. I think I got it rid of all last year or the year before. So that's my dilemma and my "misson". I have a few projects in mind that I will be sharing with all of you - stay tuned for those - but I'd LOVE to hear your suggestions or links to projects or ideas!!! and probably everyone else would too!

The invisible Mom

I am not usually one to forward emails or share things like this but this story is really worth the read. It may look long in length but I was so glad I took the few minutes it took to read it over. I created a stir in my soul and made me want to reach out to other Mothers. Hopefully by posting here I can achieve that in some small way.

It started to happen gradually. One day I was walking my son Jake to school. I was holding his hand and we were about to cross the street when the crossing guard said to him, 'Who is that with you, young fella?' 'Nobody,' he shrugged. Nobody? The crossing guard and I laughed. My son is only 5, but as we crossed the street I thought, 'Oh my goodness, nobody?'

I would walk into a room and no one would notice. I would say something to my family - like 'Turn the TV down, please' - and nothing would happen. Nobody would get up, or even make a move for the remote. I would stand there for a minute, and then I would say again, a little louder, 'Would someone turn the TV down?' Nothing.

Just the other night my husband and I were out at a party. We'd been there for about three hours and I was ready to leave. I noticed he was talking to a friend from work. So I walked over, and when there was a break in the conversation, I whispered, 'I'm ready to go when you are.' He just kept right on talking.

That's when I started to put all the pieces together. I don't think he can see me.

I don't think anyone can see me.

I'm invisible.

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm
on the phone?' Obviously not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all.

I'm invisible.

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this?

Can you tie this? Can you open this?

Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.' I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again.

She's going... she's going... she's gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a banana clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.'

It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: 'To Charlotte , with
admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'

In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work:

No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names.These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished.

They made great sacrifices and expected no credit.

The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny
bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'

I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.'

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell thefriend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three
hours and presses all the linens for the table.'

That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself.

I just want him to want to come home.

And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, 'You're gonna love it there.'

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're
doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the

world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

working, working, working! I know I've been a bit quiet the last couple of weeks. Well.............between school starting up, dance classes, preschool and a mirad of other things PLUS working on getting my new "Accessorize!" section added to my website I didn't get my blogging in! LOL!!! But I do have alot to show for it! yeah!!!! I'm so happy to debut 4 styles of Skinny Scarves, 2 purses and 1 new apron. Thank you, thank you for the wonderful response, encouragment and requests for these items! I'm doing by best to keep up with the demand. LOL!

I have mail! Me! just for Me! I never have "fun" mail days when packages arrive just for "moi". Sure, I love it when fabrics or products come on the mail - but those are for other designs and certainly not a surprise! I've been quite jealous of Kim who posted about her fun "mail" day and now I get a turn too!

I was blessed to receive a surprise BOX in the mail last week. The doorbell rang and sitting outside my door was a very colorful bright green oblong box. Knowing it was a special delivery and seeing my name on the label I almost turned around to grab my camera and snap a picture of it to share on my blog! LOL!!!! that's when you know you have a blogging problem. *wink* I didn't but instead snatched it up and went directly into my husbands office. "Is there something you want to tell me?" I asked him. He said no but told me to open it immediately as he wanted to know who it was from as well teasing me about a secret admirer or some boyfriend on the side - HA! Like I have time for that! LOL!!!

Anyway, to make a short story even shorter, it turned out to be a beautiful yellow flower arrangement with a sweet notecard from a dear customer. I was shocked! Just a thank you bouquet for "rushing" an outfit so it would arrive for her daughter's first day of preschool. I truly felt blessed and wear a smile each time they catch my eye. Thank YOU Miss R!

Yesterday marked the 1st of preschool for my little guy! He's been paitently waiting for his day in the sun and to be some what as grown up as his big sis - this was the day! He LOVED every minute of it and thinks it's so cool to be able to have his "own school". He picked out his own "Superman" backpack to buy a few weeks ago and got to help gather up his school supplies. He picked out his own shirt to wear on the first day as well. He's getting to BIG to FAST!!! How does that happen? and is seems everyone kids do it! LOL

After my hubby and I had dropped him off and we arrived back home I took a moment and realized and quiet and still it was on the house with both of the kids gone on a weekday! Well the quiet and stillness didn't last long! I headed straight for the stereo - tuned it into my favorite station and turned it up!!!!! Not disney tunes, toddler songs or anything else that is usually playing around here AND in the car but something I liked! woohooo!

Don't get me wrong - I love being a Mom - but every good mom needs a little time to refuel once in awhile. So after some quick clean up around the house I headed for my appointment to get my hair done! It's get to not have to worry about finding a babysitter in the middle of day.

I had to get my cut shaped up and then I wanted to go darker for Fall with my color as well. My hairstylist weaved in 3 different colors - A dark brown, a Honey and reddish color. The combination is really pretty - I'm just still getting used to it a bit. ;) Of course I wouldn't leave you hangin' without a picture!

Have your cake and eat it too........and then have some more and more and MORE!

We have a couple of "cluster" birthday months in my family - August being one of them where there are several birthdays and several parties to attend. The August birthdays all happen to fall at the end of the month so within a week we attended 3 family birthday parties. Would have been 4 BUT my sister chose not to have a family get together this year. PLUS add in a birthday party for my daughter friend and that's ALOT of cake, ice cream, party favors and FUN for 1 week! LOL

Don't get me wrong it was great to "party" that much in one week especially because 2 of the family birthdays being celebrated were the BIG 1st birthday! I just love those! We attended Miss J's outdoor party in the gorgeous setting of the mountains, sunset, horses in the pasture and the quiet that surrounding brings. Just the getaway I needed for a few hours. She was a doll too and plunged right into her cake giving everyone GREAT "messy" cake pictures.

I was also able to snap a few pictures from the surrounding area even making my husband drive back by an old barn just so I could photograph it. I would have liked to have gotten some closer shots of the barn but I was too afraid of a neighbor or someone coming out to tell me I couldn't do that. *snicker* Anyone have simliar experiences? Where it should be OK to do something but you're afraid it's not and that you'll get in trouble???? LOL

Then we were off to Miss K's 1st birthday Party just a few short days later for more fun!

Both of the new 1 year old girls got their own custom creation suited for their personality from me for their birthday. It was fun to create a surprise for them and without being given a theme to do. My sweet daughter helped pick out the fabrics and even cut some of the pieces. She also wanted to have a say in how the fabrics got laid out as well. It was fun to create them with her. Each got a pair of Shaggy Mosaic jeans and a matching Shaggy Initial tee. Miss J's was very wild and funky and Miss K's was very Paris Ooh La la girly.

All in all my family had our fill of birthday cake for awhile. But it's fun to celebrate with family and get together for those milestones - don't you think?

You may have noticed my new header and possibly my new logo on some of my auction pictures as well. Maybe you were even obervant enough to see the "website" and "shop" buttons I have put back up on the right side of my blog? you did see it? Well let me fill you in on the scoop!

My website has gotten a complete makeover by mjgraphicdesign.com! Bobbie incorpated so many patterns and items that I love when she designed my new logo and website! She was a dream to work with and did it all fairly quickly as well which is good for me. I don't like my "projects", whatever they be, to be lengthy or drawn out. LOL! My husband will tell you that!

The most exciting part is now it's so easy to shop right off my site! I've added several categories - jeans, tops, DIY kits, aprons and MORE! You can contact me easily using the "email me" button, find my auctions, get back to my blog and check out my recent press, etc. I Love it! I've also added a sub category to the Jeans Section labeled - Sample Sets. Right now I have a few sets that I need to clear out so be sure to check that section out as well for a bargain!

I've been waiting to officially announce it and have a big reveal BUT as I've been working to add new products and stock my website I've been fortunate enough to have customers stop by and snatch them up! tee hee hee. SO........I figure I will just have to announce it now as I don't think I'll be ahead of the game long enough to have it all stocked up the way I want it.

Livin' Large

What happens when summer comes to a close and your summer routine ends?.....................um..............well for starters our garden has almost all been but forgotten this last week...........or maybe longer...........LOL!!! Now that most of our veggies aren't "on" anymore or have stopped producing for the most part I haven't been giving it the love and care I was earlier in the season. I happened to wander out there today and spied and GIGANTIC zucchini! WHOA! This baby grew out over the side of the garden box and onto the ground. It's huge! I tried to capture the size of it by having my six and half year old daughter stand by it. You can see how high up to her leg it stands. We also had a cucumber that got missed for enough days that is was super long and sort of twisty. Anyone else have gigantic veggies this year? *snicker*

Our tomatoes are just about to come on too. I'm personally not a huge of tomatoes. I like them with certain foods or in them but not to just eat plain. That would be my hubby. He loves tomatoes and made sure we got enough plants. I think we'll have too many - wink. The tomato plants have also got invaded by the mini pumpkin vine. I knew pumpkins spread out but I guess we didn't plan it too well. I've been trying to redirect the pumpkin vines away from the tomato plants. You can see how they have spread out over our property line. LOL!!! We've got several pumpkins turning orange too! I can't wait to bring them inside and decorate for fall with them!

I know it's only the end of August but I'm itching to break out the fall decor and switch things up around my house. How about you?

Speaking of decor, here's a few pictures of a project I did this week. I needed to switch gears for a bit from sewing/designing to something else. The victim? A plain wood stool I bought at a yard sale years ago. It's been used for many things and put in many different places and seems to have been used alot lately. So much, that I actually "noticed it". You know how sometimes you have items that maybe sit in a room and you just sort of don't "see" them anymore or really notice them daily. You know they are there - you just pay attention to them. Anyway, I thought if we are going to keep on using this and I am going to keep seeing it around the house then it needs a little sprucing up! So I grabbed a can of paint, a few brushes, throw in a couple of eager helpers ~ TA DA! A shiny black stool that sits in my office as it's "put away" place when it's not being used for various other tasks around the house.

I love it so much now I'm thinking, "why did I wait so long to do this?"
